| Candy had her swallow study today and did so awesome!!! She went with out pain meds for a while and sat up in a chair and did wonderfully!! She worked so hard! She is now able to have smooth pureed foods such as fruit, slushies, sorbet, popsicles and broth which is huge for her!! She is very excited and it's a great start from not eating in such a long time!I am so proud of her! Thank you for all of your prayers and support! |

| Candy was able to read all of your thoughts and prayers for her today! She smiled really big and just loved them! Thank you all for the sweet words and encouragement! They really mean a lot to her and will help her to continue to push herself to do more things and get better!! I put the computer in front of her today and she was able to use the mouse to scroll down and read your messages but she is not able to type quite yet. She used a pair of scissors today and was able to cut pieces of ribbon to make a picture board project with the occupational therapist. And the big news for today was that Candy was able to transfer into a wheelchair and sat there for 30 minutes which is HUGE PROGRESS!!! She mouthed that she wanted to go for a ride but with the ventilator, feedin tubes and iv pole that wasn't possible quite yet but a goal that we are working on!
Candy is having a swallow study done tomorrow to see if she can eat applesauce or sherbet and how well she can drink. Please pray for her that things go well and that she is strong enough to swallow so that she can start having more to eat than just ice chips!!! It means a lot to her! I will let you all know how tomorrow goes and please continue to send your messages b/c she is really enjoying reading them and hearing from all of you! |

| Hi, this is Candy's sister Heather and Candy wanted me to update all her friends on what has happened the last 3 months and why you haven't heard from her! On May 6 Candy had her hip replaced and two days later she started having trouble breathing and found out she had a lung problem called ARDS which Acute Resperatory Distress Syndrome. She then was transferred from OSU in Columbus to Cincinnati Childrens by medflight ambulance. She has been in the icu in Cincinnati since she got here. In July she had a trach put in. And is still on the ventilator. She had been running fevers for weeks and they just disovered that she had pneumonia. Last week they started treatment for the pneumonia and ever since then she has started feeling a whole lot better! She has been sitting on the side of her bed, watching tv,coloring, and trying to write. The last 2 weeks have been great for her! She can read all of your messages so if you want to reply she would LOVE to hear from all of you and I will keep you updated! Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers! |
